Troubleshooting
What to check when the bar is missing, a pose isn't kept, or an edit changes only one frame.
#The bar isn't there
- Check Marionette Bar at the top of the viewport's View menu.
- Check the viewport's Show Gizmo switch, in its header. The bar hides with it.
- With Choreographer installed, Marionette's buttons are on Choreographer's bar.
- The bar shows when the scene has an armature, or, in a scene with none, its Add Character button.
#"Select the character to pose first"
Click your character's rig in the viewport, then Autopose.
#The pose isn't kept
With Auto Keying off, a pose stays only until the frame changes, as a pose made with G or R does. Press I to key it, or switch on Auto Keying on the bar.
#The editing tools aren't on the bar
The Smooth Brush, Lock in Place, Pick Up and the Motion Check appear once the character has animation. Key a pose first, or open a file with a take.
#An edit changes only one frame
- Check Reach in Settings: at 0, only the edited frame changes. Check Intensity too.
- A handle drag carries through the Reach when Auto Keying is on.
- On a control rig, a handle drag changes the frame you are on. Drag a point on the motion trail to carry an edit across frames.
#"No fingers found on this character's hands"
The hand presets and the fingertip handles need finger bones. A character with mitten hands has none to pose.
#"Too near the end of the motion to change its timing here"
Retiming needs a few frames on either side of the point. Retime a point further from the first or last frame.
#Lock in Place: "it needs two parent bones"
A lock holds a hand or foot through its arm or leg, so the joint needs an upper and a lower bone above it.
#A joint goes to the wrong place
Marionette finds each joint from the rig's shape. If a rig fools it, open Settings → Skeleton and set the joint's bone by hand.
#No update notice
Update checks need Blender's Allow Online Access (Preferences → System) and Check Once a Day in Marionette's preferences. Could not reach animatica.ai means the check didn't get an answer; try Check Now later. You can always download the newest version from Downloads in your Animatica account.
#Still stuck
Ask on our Discord: the team is there, and so are other animators using Marionette. Or write to support@animatica.ai.
